Symphony in C: Beethoven, Hummel, Shaw
Guest conductor Ankush Kumar Bahl opens the program with Entr’acte by Pulitzer Prize winning composer Caroline Shaw. The piece was written in 2011 and inspired by Haydn’s string quartet Op. 77. The composer wrote that it is “structured like a minuet and trio, riffing on that classical form but suddenly takes you to the other side of Alice’s looking glass, in a kind of absurd, subtle, technicolor transition.” Symphony in C welcomes the return of former Principal Trumpet and member of the world-renowned Canadian Brass, Caleb Hudson who performs the iconic Trumpet Concerto in E-flat Major by Johann Nepomuk Hummel. The concert concludes with one of Beethoven’s most famous works, the Symphony No. 3 in E♭ major, Op. 55, “Eroica”.
